Is that Innovation Job too good to be True?

In May 2016, GE’s Chief Digital Officer, Bill Ruh and Pitney Bowes’ Chief Innovation Officer, Roger Pilc jointly presented some of their successes. GE’s Digital revenues have now doubled to $5 billion since its start in 2011, and Ruh expects it to grow 20-30% in 2016. Pitney Bowes completely redesigned 30 of its products to compete in the era of Innovation and Digital. They seem to be resounding successes.

However, for every successful organization that has developed breakthrough products and services, there are others that have tried and failed. Former New York Times’ Director of New Products John Geraci recently described the media company’s noble innovation efforts as a “resounding failure”.

So if you’re considering an innovation role – either internally within your company or externally, how do you decide if it’s the right organization and opportunity for you?
